Why do every incident or solution need to happen only during the reunion and not otherwise? I only knew who Rekha was and where her emotions come from.

I think it has worked really well.

There is an elaborate sequence in the reunion in the second half, where so many things are happening yet, but only few of it engages us.

But unintentional or not, the pain it can cause is real.

The major issue that the film faces is the writing in the second half.
